The Fiji Islands lie in the south-western Pacific Ocean 18° south of the equator. They are on a similar latitude to Cairns in Australia's far north and Mauritius in the southern Indian Ocean. The same latitude north takes in Hawaii and the Caribbean islands of Jamaica and Virgin Islands.
